6/27/07 One Voice When I was a child, I was taught about the men who founded this great country of ours. I remember learning about the cry of one voice, “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of your country.” At the time I thought that it was quaint and, as children do, tucked it deep in my memory bank. Recently I heard about the one voice of a man named Ron Paul. His one voice started a conversation, and that has evolved into a small group of like minded people. What did Ron Paul’s one voice say? He said we were in danger. He said that we were in clear and present danger of losing our uniquely precious constitutional rights. The rights written and fought for by the brilliant forefather’s of our great country. Our current administration has already invaded and eroded our constitutional right to privacy under the guise of national security. That is their lie. The truth is, those politicians are using the information to further their own political ambitions and personal gain. Information not about potential terrorist attacks, but about you and me. I believe that the world still functions using schoolyard justice. I have read that when a schoolyard bully picks on a weaker and more vulnerable person – it takes just one person –one voice to say stop… and the bully will back down. Ron Paul has stepped up and cried, "Stop." His one voice has been heard – but only by a few. I urge you – all of you! – to take a moment and listen to Dr. Ron Paul’s one voice – and then make the personal and private decision to come to the aid of your country. One voice can soothe a crying child. One voice can reassure a troubled soul. One voice can change the world. One voice. -Susan Smith-Meierer |

6/25/07 A recent article in the Reno Gazette-Journal describes the challenges we face in getting Republican support for Ron Paul in Nevada. It also illustrates the importance of our work, as Nevada becomes an increasingly important player in the country's politics. The news article, entitled "Poll shows Thompson, Clinton on top for Nevada voters", appeared in the Sunday, June 24th edition of the Reno Gazette-Journal. The article details a recent poll released by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research, which shows actor-turned-politician Fred Thompson as leading the polls for Republicans in Nevada. Senator Thompson leads the field of Republican candidates, although he has yet to declare his candidacy, with 25% of Republican voters' support. Mitt Romney came in second in this latest poll with 20%, followed by Rudy Guiliani at 17%, John McCain at 8%, and Mike Huckabee at 3%. The article states that the other Republican candidates had 1% support or less. It should be noted that the accuracy of this poll is by no means absolute. The Republicans polled in this case are described as "considered likely to attend a nominating caucus". It has been pointed out by many in the Ron Paul campaign, including by Dr. Paul himself, that the Republican base has been shrinking significantly over the past few years, which indicates the people included in this poll are probably a small minority of the voters in the state. Also, much of Ron Paul's support has come from outside the Republican base, and from younger voters, who are less likely to be included such a poll as this one. As with most polls, the fairness and accuracy can certainly be called into question as well. However, this poll and the article about it show how much work we, as the local Ron Paul support group, have still to accomplish in our local community. It is our duty to help make Ron Paul such a popular candidate in this state that the polls and the mainstream media can no longer ignore him. The Republican caucus takes place on January 19, 2008 in Nevada, and the early date makes it even more essential that Ron Paul has a strong showing here. Momentum is critical to political campaigns, and we can help Ron Paul gain that momentum in Nevada. This is task we face, Reno Ron Paul Rebels; and the rewards of success are too great to squander such an incredible opportunity. -J.L. Terhune |
