Ron Paul's Regional Coordinator Speaks to Enthusiastic Crowd RENO, NV, August 22, 2007-- Jeff Greenspan, regional coordinator for the Ron Paul for President Campaign, spoke this evening to an enthusiatic crowd of over forty people at the 19th Hole Restaurant at LakeRidge Golf Course. Mr. Greenspan spoke for over thirty minutes, educating the crowd about Ron Paul's policies, including strict adherence to the Constitution, eliminating the income tax, and a humble, non-interventionist foreign policy. He also discussed the caucus system of the Nevada Republican party. The meeting was opened by Dr. Wayne Terhune (Treasurer of the local Meet-Up group) and his son, Robert Terhune, who is the group's assistant organizer. They welcomed the crowd and then turned the floor over to Mr. Greenspan, who attempted to assess the crowd by a show of hands. Approximately half of the attendees were Ron Paul Meet-Up members, a quarter were Ron Paul supporters but not part of the Meet-Up group, and the remaining quarter had come to learn more about Ron Paul. Mr. Greenspan began by talking about Ron Paul's very strong belief in following the U.S. Constitution. He explained that Ron Paul was the only congressman to put forward a bill to declare war on Iraq before the invasion. Not because Dr. Paul supported invading Iraq, but because he felt if "we were going to do it, it should be done constitutionally." Mr. Greenspan pointed out that Congress has not declared war since World War II. Dr. Paul's bill declaring war on Iraq was voted down in committee and never appeared on the House floor. One of the congressman who voted it down remarked that the part of the Constitution was "anachronistic". Dr. Paul's beliefs are very different. He believes the Constitution is a guide-book for the government and the citizens about how the government should be run. Mr. Greenspan explained that Dr. Paul will not vote for legislation - even if it's something he personally likes - unless it is authorized by the Constitution. Mr. Greenspan took questions from the crowd on subjects ranging from the income tax and social securtiy to foreign policy. He stressed Dr. Paul's belief that the government can be run without the income tax. Mr. Greenspan explained that If the government was the size it was in 2000, it could be run without income taxes, One man in the crowd asked if Dr. Paul supported states' rights. Mr Greenspan went on to explain that states' rights are fundamental in Dr. Paul's beliefs. Dr. Paul believes the federal government should be much smaller than it is, and kept strictly within the limits of the U.S. Constitution. He voted against the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act, both which massively expanded the size and scope of the federal government. By the end of the speech, Mr. Greenspan had received several rounds of enthusiastic applause. After speaking and taking questions for over half an hour, he stayed behind to discuss the Republican party caucus system with about twenty people, many of whom appeared to be planning to attend the Republican caucus in January 2008. Jeff Greenspan, regional coordinator for the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign, spoke to over forty people who crowded into the 19th Hole Restaurant this evening. The enthusiastic crowd asked many questions about Dr. Paul's beliefs in personal freedoms, limited federal government, and his dedication to the U.S. Constitution.
