Ron Paul Wins CLC Straw Poll in Northern Nevada

SPARKS, NV, October 13, 2007---Presidential candidate Ron Paul has won the straw poll conducted by PoliticalDerby.com at the Conservative Leadership Conference this weekend in northern Nevada.  Paul finished with 32.8% of the vote, more than double his nearest contender, Mitt Romney.  Despite personally addressing the conference, Romney came in second with only 16.13% of the vote.  Duncan Hunter, who also spoke at the conference, came in third place with 14.52%.  Over five hundred people attended the CLC Rightoberfest, which was held October 11-13 at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks, Nevada, and boasted such speakers as Mitt Romney, Duncan Hunter, and Alan Keyes.

Local Ron Paul supporters were ecstatic to hear the straw poll results.  "This is wonderful news for Ron Paul," said Dr. Wayne Terhune, a local Ron Paul supporter.  "And this wasn't spammers, this was a public vote." Ron Paul did not personally attend the conference, but the campaign rented a booth in the CLC exhibition hall that was run by a number of enthusiastic local volunteers.  According to local media, Ron Paul had the largest contingent of supporters at the conference.  Ron Paul signs stood conspicuously in almost every corner around the conference hall.

The unpaid volunteers handed out literature and bumper stickers, while continuously playing videos of Ron Paul's speeches and interviews.  They talked to anyone who would listen about Ron Paul's message of freedom, prosperity, and peace.

Ron Paul's win at the CLC straw poll is yet another triumph in the month of October that has already been very kind to the Texas congressman.  Ron Paul made major headlines earlier this month when it was announced that he had raised over five million dollars in the last quarter.  Ron Paul has had more media attention since that announcement than in the previous nine months of his campaign.  Ron Paul won this weekend's CLC straw poll overwhelmingly, despite personal appearances by rival candidates; and his local volunteers made sure everyone who attended the conference were aware of the strong Ron Paul support in northern Nevada.
